The Weigh Station is an ongoing renovation project in the hamlet of Callicoon, NY, and is currently serving as a mixed-use field office for the civic organization ENGN. The building has been a site for many temporary designs interventions, installations, exhibitions and public events.
The Weigh Station previously functioned as a weighing station for trucks picking up coal from two monumental silos on the same property. For this reason the main architectural feature is a deep cantilevered roof that covers a large concrete weighing platform. This generous space makes a great public gathering area. Inside there is a small gallery space that doubles as a mixed use collaborative working area.
In 2012 the Weigh station receive a new roof and the interior was gutted. In the Fall of 2016 it gained a water hookup in preparation for a small kitchen area to facilitate food service. Other plans include landscaping the adjacent land to create a public park leading to the Silos.
